Come join us on Friday August 28th for a great round of Golf at Poppy Hills Golf Club in Pebble Beach.

$280 for a foursome before 8 or after 2:30 (green fee, cart, range balls, and logo hat included). ($75 per person).

Poppy Hills is a challenging golf course that weaves through the Del Monte Forest. The venue plays host to many prominent tournaments including the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, in early February.

A 2007 Zagat Survey ranked Poppy Hills the 12th “Most Popular Course” in the U.S, and the layout was named “National Course of the Year” in 2006 by the National Golf Course Owners Association.

The Robert Trent Jones Jr. design opened in 1986 and is the home course for the NCGA. It was the first course in the United States to be owned and operated by an amateur golf association. The NCGA continued to grow with the addition of a second course, Poppy Ridge in Livermore in 1996.

The course welcomes public play and it is recommended for visitors to join the NCGA to receive nearly a 75% discount off the $200 public green fee. The par-72 layout measures 6,857 yards from the black tees with a slope rating of 74.3/144. Matt Gogel holds the course record of 62. There are four teeing areas on each hole, making Poppy Hills enjoyable for all levels of play.

Poppy Hills also includes a picturesque grass driving range, practice putting, chipping, bunker facilities and a swing video analysis system. The golf shop was named as one of the “Top 100 Golf Shops” in 2006 by Golf World Business magazine. The course also offers a idyllic setting for a wedding in Pebble Beach.

Poppy Hills golf course is a must play when visiting Pebble Beach and the Monterey Peninsula.

Come join us on Saturday August 22nd for a great day of Golf at the Callippe Preserve Golf Course in Pleasanton.

Greens Fee Weekend Rates: $87/Player includes cart and golf shop credit

Please send payment by August 1st to:
Richard Flory

Brentwood CA 94513

With the opening of our brand new course in Pleasanton on November 11, 2005, located only a short drive from San Jose or San Francisco, Callippe Preserve is sure to be a unique and memorable course. Designed by Brian Costello, of JMP Golf Design Group, “Callippe Preserve was designed to cater to the wide spectrum of players anticipated to frequent the facility”, says Costello.

There are five sets of tees on this par 72, with the black tees playing at 6,748. The blue tees measure at 6,409, then the white tees at 6,024 yards, the gold tees at 5,560, and the red at 4,788 yards.

Players on this course will get a preview of the demanding approach to the 10th hole when making their way to the number one green. Varieties of terrain are spread throughout the course as the front nine is routed through the valley and the back nine sits on a higher elevation with the Happy Valley Creek winding throughout. Superior views of Mount Diablo fill the sky line to the north and incredible sanctuaries dedicated to the Callippe Butterfly are displayed on holes 11 thru 14.

Our most dramatic par three on the course will most likely be the 13th hole. “Playing at 171 yards from an elevated tee, you will enjoy a spectacular vista of the surrounding mountains including Mount Diablo and the oak studded valley below”, said Costello. The green is then set on a diagonal with two of the 59 bunkers located on the course protecting the front right of the complex. “The front half of the green breaks towards the tee and the back half gently slopes to the back right,” Costello said.

Hole 11 offers what is expected to be the toughest green on the course. A par four that is 342 yards from the back tee, “the hole looks relatively forgiving from the tee as there are no sand bunkers present. However, a well placed tee shot down the middle needs to be followed up with a precise short iron to the undulating green. There are three distinct hole locations…the front left lobe…the center plateau … and the right lobe. An inaccurate approach will make for a difficult two putt,” said Costello

Hole 14 is a par 4 that is 344 yards from the back tee and is a monster dogleg left with Happy Valley Creek guarding the left side of the hole. “Bunkers in the fairway provide a safe play short and to the right, whereas an aggressive tee shot will bite off more of the dogleg and be rewarded with a short lob into this tricky green complex. A ridge at the equator bisects the putting surface and has a distinct right to left slope. Players must negotiate the three bunkers looming on the right side of the green and be precise with their approach shot,” said Costello.

At Callippe Preserve we strive to make each hole a signature hole. “We have strived to create a flowing sequence of unique and memorable holes that will add up to an unforgettable golfing experience. However, our par 5 number 18 seems to stand out as one of the most strategic and dramatic closing holes in the Bay Area. Happy Valley Creek meanders across the hole no less than three times to set up the hole. Nestled in the valley floor with large oak trees framing the vista, players will need to navigate the hole with three accurate shots to avoid the creek and the strategically placed bunkers to reach the large rolling green,” said Costello.

Come and experience our brand new course!

Come join us on Saturday June 27th for a great day of Golf at the Rancho Solano Golf Course in Fairfield.

Lee Ann has graciously agreed to host a small BBQ gathering at her home in Fairfield following the round. So please include in your RSVP if you will stay for the BBQ and if you will bring a dish for the others to share.

Greens Fee $56 Walk $72 Ride

Designed by Gary Roger Baird, Rancho Solano celebrated its Opening Day in March 1990. It is nestled in the hills of Fairfield and offers well-manicured fairways, large, tiered greens and challenging holes for every level of golfer.

Water is a factor on holes 2, 3, 4, and 5 on the front nine and holes 11, 12 and 14 on the back nine. Despite being an open course, club selection is important, especially on the challenging par 3’s. Rancho Solano is known for having some of the largest greens on Northern California courses.

Two of the most challenging holes are on the back nine. Hole 11 is a par 4, but club selection is important because a long drive could end up in the lake. A carefully placed second shot onto the green, which hugs the water’s edge, is not as easy as it looks. Sand traps exist on the backside of the green should a golfer decide to extend the margin of safety. The large green adds to the challenge of scoring a par.

Hole 12 is a picturesque par 3. Another small lake guards the front of the green and sand traps protect the back of the green. All tee boxes require the golfer to hit over the lake; there is no room to bail out on the right and very little room to consider a shot to the left. Getting on in one is satisfying; scoring par remains a challenge because of another trademark ‘large, two-tiered’ green.

Finishing your round with a birdie on the 18th hole is possible if you maneuver beyond the undulating fairway. This hole's green provides one last challenge on Rancho Solano's golf course.

Hi gang, Good news! We have an opportunity to play the Presidio Golf Course at a special discounted rate. We have 4 tee times booked starting at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday May 17. It's normally $99, but I was able to get a discounted rate of $80 including cart and range balls.

I have a request and a question for you.

We need to pay in advance so I need to get a firm count ASAP. Please let me know one way or another if you're interested. I'm going to give the course a firm count by the end of next week.

Also, the course normally tacks on a $5 gift certificate, and we add $10 to cover prize funds. That would raise the entry fee to $95. I realize times are tough out there, so one option would be to skip the prizes for this tournament. We'd still count the results for the end of season results, but there would be no prize money. So let me know which option you'd prefer:

A: $80 with no prize money
B: $95 with prize money, closest to the pin, and long drive contest.

thanks,

Tom

The prestigious Presidio golf course opened for public play in 1995 and has quickly gained a reputation as one of the nation's top public courses. Located just minutes from downtown San Francisco, this 18-hole course plays 6,500 yards of challenging golf winding through beautiful Eucalyptus and Monterey Pine trees in The City's trademark hills.
